St. Estevam local, 200 others booked for wrongful restraint

Panaji: Old Goa police registered a case against Rohidas Narvekar, a resident of Santo Estevam and 200 others for wrongfully restraining officials of the Communidade Central Zone, Panaji, from conducting an inspection of the alleged illegal construction at Juva, St. Estevam.

Old Goa police inspector Krishna Sinari said that one month ago, Tereza Barreto, working at the administration office of Communidade Central Zone, Panaji, had gone to conduct an inspection of an illegal construction, after a complaint was received by the office. He also said said that when the official and survey team reached the site for the inspection, they were stopped by Narvekar and 200 unknown persons.

Police said that later, the inspection team submitted a report to the attorney of communidades and on the advice of the attorney, Barreto lodged a complaint at the Old Goa Police Station.

The complaint said that Narvekar and 200 unknown accused, with their common intention, formed an unlawful assembly and wrongfully restrained communidade officials from discharging their lawful duty of conducting the site inspection.

Police have registered the case under Section 186 (obstructing public servents while discharging their lawful duty of conducting the inspection), 341 (wrongful restraint), 143 (unlawful assembly) read with 149 of the IPC. Police are investigating the case.
